What is the Kickstart Scheme?

The Kickstart Scheme provides funding for employers of all sizes to create new 6-month placements for 16 to 24 year olds on Universal Credit who are at risk of long-term unemployment, offering employers an opportunity to help support young people work towards a brighter future.

What does the funding cover?

  • 100% of the National Minimum Wage for 25 hours per week for a total of 6 months
  • Associated employer National Insurance contributions
  • Employer minimum automatic enrolment contributions
  • Up to £1,500 per placement which will help employers with setup costs and additional training, to support and develop the employability skills of new starters

 What are the requirements for job placements?

  • Job placements must be new jobs, not replacing existing vacancies
  • Minimum of 25 hours per week for at least six months
  • Pay at least the National Minimum Wage
  • Employers must offer training to develop the employability skills of new starters
